May 12, 2010. #1. Its time to dump the 5 hr. break in oil in my new 675 Briggs. The Lawnboy manual states to refill with 20oz. Oil. The separate Briggs manual the mower came with states in the oil specs that the oil capacity is 18oz-20oz of oil when refilling. I recently picked up a Briggs tune up kit that came with a 18oz bottle of 30wt.

If it uses oil or smokes it will be very clear to you with an oil washed shiny piston vs. carbon black. A little corner oil washed isn't bad but the rings are near the end of their life. (I have seen em spotlessly clean because the operator dumped the oil in it 2x a day so it didn't lock up.)
