Posted March 1, 2012. I might know a teensy bit about this. I bought a 300TDi engine that had been both boiled and fried (well, it was only £50) - then set about making it like a nice, new one As you have a running engine that is basically ok, but is tired and gutless, then rebuilding it isn't mental money.
The 2.5L Land Rover 200/300Tdi platform falls into an interesting space in the Bosch VE pump 4-cylinder diesel engine spectrum. On one end there are Volkswagen 1.9L TDIs chasing high RPM/high hp (5000+rpm, 300+hp). On the other are the Cummins 4BTs pushing huge torque figures at lower RPM (700+ ft lb at ~1800rpm).
The 300 TDI measured from same point at the rear of the block as the V-6 will just touch the fan shroud of the existing radiator. The 300 is a longer engine. I am planning on using a radiator/ intercooler set up from a series LR. The oil pans and pick ups are different on the South American 2.8 power strokes.
