OK, fair enough, over the years the Ducato has been around for some while now in its many guises and so there will be a similar number of variations in production types and producers of fittings, and therefor resultant answers. I have a 2005 2.8 JTD Ducato motorhome.
My van is an 2006 244 with a 5 speed gearbox with reverse gear in the left and up position. The gear selector casting is cylindrical, about 1.25" diameter and 1.5" long and swivels on a horizontal shaft at the rear of the gearbox. The 13 mm nut and washer securing this in position on the shaft are underneath a black plastic shroud.
Hi! Good choice to stick with the JTD. I've had both the 2.8 idTD 1999 in my previous camper and now I've got the 2.8 JTD 2002. When it comes to fuel economy, they are very similar. The big difference is in the feeling you get as driver I think. I find the JTD to be a lot smoother, it revs like a normal car, and also sounds like it spins a bit DLL6.
